On the discovery of kissing

Ever wondered why it is widely accepted for humans to put our lips on each others cheeks to show affection? Why don't we use our ears instead? Our hands? Or why don't we put our lips on the back of the head? Or on the shoulder? Why is it a combination of cheeks and lips?

I know there are some cultures out there that use their noses. There must be others that use different parts. But it seems even those who use a different technique accept the lips and cheek way eventually. I wonder if there are groups of people who never discovered kissing each other? Instead they bump heads or shoulders. Maybe even feet.

Where did it originate? Who were the first two dogs who decided to touch snout? There must be something inherent in humans that forces us to get our faces close to each other. Other animals smell or lick their loved ones. Clearly that's instinctual. So it can be said that it's instinct that drives humans to touch faces.

I'd like to get to the bottom of this. I will do some research and share my findings soon.
